I felt nostalgic and checked out this books. It's just as quirky and fun as I remember.

This books is special to me in that it's the one book that my stepdad would read to me before bed, a rare experience for us. My parents were quite open and didn't worry about shielding me from reality. These stories are a bit dismal and the images almost look like they have a sickly haze over them. The stinky cheese man was my favorite story, being a play on the Gingerbread Man. I think I appreciated that it felt like a more realistic scenario and held an essence of humor after already knowing the story of the Gingerbread Man.

There was also a retelling of Jack and the Bean stock that is far more descriptive and a bit terrifying, for example the giant says "I'll grind your bones to make my bread"...certainly something I hope I never hear for myself.

Revisiting some old books that I loved and couldn’t pass on Re-reading this! A childhood favorite! A solid 4 1/2 for me. Still made me laugh.

This just wasn't to my taste. Maybe because I have eighteen hens at home, and I love them, and I never appreciate it when hens are made fun of.

Beloved Stinky Cheese Man, your silliness and meta humor means you will always have a place in my heart.

I always loved this book as a child because I always frustrated that every.single.fairy tale had a happy ending, and that didn't reflect my life at that point.

I appreciate that it shows that not every story has a happy ending, sometimes there's no real point to something other for it to exist.
