This book didn’t hold my attention. Only a few parts.
I disliked Gabriel’s character. I don’t like when pushy men get the girl (that’s not a spoiler- author gives away they’re a “love story” from the first page).

This book was slow. I believe it lacked real page-turner elements. There was not enough suspense and I was bored most of the time reading the book. The characters was not engaging enough nor rememberable at best. I really wanted to like the plot but it just fell flat to me. Although, this wasn’t for me, I do however, love that this author took a chance on a, “how to get away with murder” plot and took her time with writing a story that I know some people will love.

This is my first novel by Stacey Abrams AKA Selena Montgomery, and I truly enjoyed it.
This action-packed thriller focuses on Dr. Erin Abbot, who works as a college professor in New Orleans, LA. Erin keeps a low profile and tries to live a quiet life until the day she receives the letter that changes everything. The story starts with Erin receiving the letter in which it is revealed that she has a secret she's been keeping. The secret is not fully exposed at first, but Erin knows that her status as a college professor and her personal life would take a hit if it is revealed to the world. When she meets Gabriel, she becomes aware that she cannot have a journalist digging into her life, but she can't deny the chemistry they have and the attraction she feels toward this man she just met.
I will say that my favorite thing about this book was the characters. Gabriel is witty and fun, and the banter between him and Erin keeps the story engaging. I loved how caring and lovable he is even when he just met Erin, and I liked that he makes his intentions clear from the beginning. He doesn't hide his attraction for Erin, and he is very open about the questions he has about her life. Erin is also a very likable character who is simply trying to keep her life as normal as possible. She is a strong and assertive character, and she doesn't rely on anyone but herself, which I found truly admirable. The chemistry between Gabriel and Erin is clear from their first interaction, and I truly loved how their relationship developed.
I enjoyed the plot of the book and the story was engaging. I will say that I've read similar thrillers before with a serial killer storyline, and this one was somewhat predictable. However, Abrams is able to tell an engaging storyline with red hearings that make it tricky to guess who is the killer. I found most of the secondary storylines to be nicely tied to the main plot, and I liked how they were developed. This was a fast-paced read with some unique twists.
