I’ve been in a book slump and this story was able to break the streak. I’ve never read anything by this author but have heard good things from several book friends. This is a YA story which I’m very picky about and it was able to hold my attention. I really enjoyed the plot and the whole supernatural element to this story. I’ve never read a book like this before and it was refreshing and kept me interested the whole time. The only slight issue I had was was with the male narrator. His voice didn’t sound like a teenage boy and at times it threw me off. The female narrator did a good job with coming across as a teenage girl. If you like YA books with a supernatural/paranormal element this book is for you!

Notes from Reading:
>>Okay, no fucks given at first, could take it or leave it. BUT, getting sent away for defending a boy? Pretty cool.
>>Sad pathetic boy & drawing a bloody dagger? You got me for a bit longer.
>>Soooo not a fan of ”Father John said this” nonsense though.
>>Hey, that Father John stuff stopped!
>>Alright no kink shame from me. Nice break from the norm, TBH.
>>Denial. Slowed down plot for teenage rambunctious.
>>Okay, that’s different.
>>Yep, I’m going to finish it.
>>Magical brown people to save the day, UGH. Going so well, WHY?!? Well, at least they're not the all knowing, all powerful type, I guess....
>>Girl's got an ax. Now we’re rolling.
>>Huh. Not bad.
>>Did take me awhile to get through since I wasn't in a hurry to get back to it. Just an okay, when I had nothing else to do and it was free, read.

Loved the story and concept but the relationship was too over the top in that they were obsessed in a short amount of time, etc.

Just know that this is not, in any way, your usual Christina Lauren book. Which I appreciated.

Looking for a book that reminds you of that animated movie “Monster House,” but it’s ten times more twisted and ten times more romantic? The House is just what you’re looking for, then!
I knew Christina and Lauren were masters of new adult/adult fiction, but how was I supposed to know they were hiding mastery of young adult horror romance up their sleeves as well? That’s just not fair. You have to pick something; you can’t BE GOOD AT EVERYTHING!

“She was like a fire-cracker standing too close to a match: all potential energy, still wrapped up so neatly. He wanted to watch her explode. Hell, he was the match. He wanted to make her explode.”
