To be absolutely honest I have only read the second age part about Galadriel cause I am just eager to learn more about her rights and wrongs, I will definitely come back to the book to finish the other parts as well at some point. Amazing 12/10 it has a vibe of a scientific exploration and summary of Prof jirt’s essays and notes and i absolutely love the contradictions he’s left in the many of them. He really just said if you have a pure heart and a dream you too can take part in the middle earth lore creation. Absolutely love the fact that Galadriel hated Fëanor with burning passion, love the vague Sauron Galadriel meet up insinuations, and I am so confused about the Celebrimbor love confession but I guess it do be like that sometimes (everyone being obsessed with Galadriel)

These give some really cool insights to books such as The Hobbit. If you are a fan of Tolkien's works and want to get some cool looks into behind the scenes and little tidbits and extras that Tolkien was working on I highly recommend this book!

A wonderful collection of stories from the first to the third age of Middle-Earth. Although the ones of the first age are covered with more detail in subsequent books, it was a nice refresher. I found most interesting the stories of the second amd third ages.
All in all, for those looking for more information about Tolkien's World, the unfinished tales are highly recommended.

After reading The Hobbit, then Lord of the Rings (11 times so far) I decided it was finally time to read some of the background work, the 'lore' of LotR, and I started with The Silmarillion last year which was pretty good, and I finally completed the Unfinished Tales yesterday. I am so very glad that I did, because some of these stories, whether complete or not, are amazing. I especially enjoyed The Children of Hurin and the story of Gondolin, but I cannot say that any part of this compendium of Tolkien's incomplete manuscripts was not entirely worth reading.
It has left me feeling especially keen to read Lord of the Rings again, because having an understanding of Middle Earth throughout its preceding histories and ages must surely add considerable depth and richness to that master work.
I suppose the only negative here is the sense of regret around what might have been were any of these stories ever to have been finally published by the great man. The Children of Hurin must have been fairly close, because it does not feel lacking, even if it could have been more complete overall.
I really want to now read even more of Tolkien's work, but it becomes slightly difficult to know where to go. I am tempted by the Fall of Gondolin just for the Morgoth vibes. We shall see.

This is full of a lot of really lovely and interesting stories and snippets from the world of Tolkien, definitely requires plenty of prior knowledge to be enjoyed but I'll certainly make return visits to the best ones!
