A solid follow up to the first book in the series. I feel like it was terribly mean of the author to have the readers’ heart strings pulled by a being that is both sad dog and sad child, multiple times. The plot felt a bit forced in places and I never really connected with the peril that the protagonists found themselves in. I did enjoy reading about Merritt’s personal internal struggles; they were well written and had excellent resolution. Overall it was pretty good.
