This was pretty good. Very informative, fascinating and mysterious. You have to be really patient if you want to like this book though. However, there comes a point about half-way where you just can't stop reading because you're trying to fit all the pieces of the puzzle together. Also I was expecting to be more blown away with the mystery, but my expectations were too high so that didn't end up happening.

Overall, I would recommend this to anyone interested in philosophy and willing to read this chunk of a book.

Sophie's World is great if you want an accessible source to understand western philosophy.

The same cannot be said for the plot.

The novel lacks a strong storyline and strong characters, the second half was somewhat stronger the beginning but still not great. It is concerning that this book is written for young readers when the storyline focuses around Sophie receiving letters from, corresponding with and then meeting in a very sketchy way a middle-aged man. At first, being secretive with her mother about it and also showing no fear or caution for this stranger. Alberto strongly came off as if he was grooming Sophie, and Sophie just went along with it.
The main characters did not seem to have any motivations outside of philosophy and the secondary characters had no characteristics or anything that drove them.

Absolutely amazing introduction to philosophy in an engaging and novel-like way. However, it does take a really long time to read because it covers philosophy and well-thinking!

DNF. I don't like how the author is going about this. I feel like he's pushing some ideals on me thru Sophie.

This was such a challenge. It is more of a text book than a work of fiction. If you're reading it as a text book then you're onto a winner...but as a 'story' it is laborious and unrewarding. While I can accept the clever twists and devices...it is just a philosophy text book pretending to be a story ... I get it...I get what it's trying to do but ... try doing it in significantly less pages next time.
