“Give me a calloused hand, anyone
who can nail down the best way to live”

Let me begin this review with stating I’m new to the reviewing scene, this rating may change at a later date since I may revisit this collection, I’ve read it twice and had trouble finalizing this verdict. I’m also still finding my way through poetry , so there’s that as well. This is a relatively short collection, with very charming and simple illustrations. I must say the title intrigued me, and I decided to give it a go.

Overall, it is a decent collection, however it just didn’t speak to me personally. There are some incredible lines like the above listed quote, that just really made me completely stop reading, pick up, then re-read. I really enjoyed “I long for people” “Middle Age” and “The Ladder”. There is an overall sense of longing, loss, and a kind of acceptance I feel as overarching themes. I can appreciate it, and there were moments that really stuck out to me, however it wasn’t a constant feeling. This may have not been “it” for me but it’s well done and might just be your cup of tea.

Loved this short collection! Will try to reread in Korean in the next few months to see if it enhances it in any way! Favourites were Wildflowers and The Ladder. Highly recommend
