This Hathe series isn't really two books at all - it's one book divided in the middle and presented as if it's a series. But the first book ends on a cliffhanger, and you can't read this 'second' book without having read the first first. The author herself never intended it to be released in two parts. I guess it's got to do with the length, and publishers not wanting to take a risk on a 600-page relatively unknown author (sorry, poor grammar there .... I might come back and fix it when my brain gets into the right place).

This half of the story continues to follow a basic star-crossed lovers story arc. There are misunderstandings, there is an awful lot of misery because of them, there's reconciliation (no, it's not a spoiler to say so - we all know how romance novels develop), and there are still major problems. Because .... well, I won't go into that.

As I wrote in my review of the first half, this is sci-fi space opera. It has plenty of action and an interesting supposition of a possible future. The supporting cast are a bit stereotyped, but then that's not unexpected in this type of novel. And I rather like that the author has given an ending that lends itself to a possible follow-on for Marthe and Hamon. I'm sure there are many more adventures ahead of them.
