I liked this. Easy to follow, likable characters, good character development, and it only took one day to read. I am excited to start the second in the series.

Oh gosh, this book had me hooked from the very first page. The characters and the world that Tintera has created feels real. You feel their emotions and you want to either cheer for them or hate them. I can't wait to continue reading the series.

4 stars to the YA Circle July Read!
All I could say upon finishing this book was "oh my god." I was pleasantly surprised by Ruined. As a reader who does not often love fantasy (and being fairly alone on my dislike for the Throne of Glass series), I was thrilled to enjoy Ruined as much as I did. It is a fantastic read with surprising plot twists and intriguing characters.

This is more of a question than a review.... I really like this book but did anyone else really think of like other books while reading this? like Snow like Ashes....The Young Elites... Red Queen....? Not sure which were published first not that it matters I just want to know if anyone else think it's similar or not.....

RATING: 1.4/10

This is nothing new. Powerless queen who does some infiltration shit into the enemy's castle, dons a new identity, falls in love with the handsome prince, they make out in the forest, queen's best friend dies, the enemy's king is corrupt and gets killed, war zone, magic powers.......... LAME. Nothing special. it's just another YA novel.

There was absolutely NO. World building. Nothing to help the reader visualise what would happen, what weather the cities were experiencing, nothing about culture, language or ANYTHING. We see a forest... mountains maybe? There's absolutely ZERO geographical clues in this book, which makes it so infuriating because you literally have no idea where the characters are going, what culture or history the cities have, what climates they are experiencing, how far they are from each other, ABSOLUTELY ZERO.

Also. The main character. We have the overused cliche badass queen girl who's cool as shit... then becomes a lil softie baby CUZ SHE FELL IN LOVE. Suddenly she's merciful and doesn't want to murder her little boyfriends family even though THEY CUT OFF HER FAMILY'S HEADS? Ok. Bye.

The whole execution of certain wars and infiltrations felt very summarised. There was no buildup, no suspense, no development. NOTHING.

I hope to see more development in the worldbuilding in book 2&3. There's so much to be explored, especially with the protagonist's lack of magic powers, what the actual powers are about, the friendship between Em and Aren, Cas and Jovita and even Em's relationships w her father and mother and Olivia.

This book felt very predictable and unoriginal. I don't think book 2&3 can get any worse, but I have no expectations.
