Weak characters so far, and the 'ghouls' are more horror than sci-fi, but it's pretty so I'll keep reading

Weird not wonderful. This book is almost borderline incomprehensible. The authors pull everything together at the last moment to prduce a big reveal that is as derivative as it is week.

I wanted it to be good. It had so many great ideas, they just didn't have enough time and space (attention? Energy?) to see it through. I'll still read the Clandestiny volume, though

Great artwork - very detailed and gave a gritty atmosphere. Although sometimes hard to differentiate some of the faces ('hardened white men' characters can look really similar, okay).

The writing was strong and the plot was well developed (complex without being difficult to comprehend... unless you start reading it when you're extra tired, which was the case for me...). I really liked the mystery element and think there's a lot of room to grow this world/premise in the sequel.

Also the interstitials were excellent.

While it's a great reading experience, I don't know how much it'll stay with me from an originality or impact perspective.

Not sure what to think of it. It's a wild mixture of space noir cyberpunk, philosophical science fiction and mystery horror. A cop searching for her sister, a drug inventor with nothing to lose, a visionary who considers himself a failure, drug lords, a samurai guy and some sort of zombie hive mind people created by a stable black whole. It's a bit much if you ask me. The smaller stories are completed in Volume 1, so you can read it. But if you want to know what's the bigger picture, you'll have to read the other Volumes. Maybe I will, maybe I won't.
