After Hello by Lisa Mangum

Barnes and Noble.com summary:

Seventeen-year-old Sara’s first trip to New York City, accompanying her father on a business trip, turns into 24 hours she will never forget. An amateur photographer, Sara walks around the city taking pictures; when a boy named Sam wanders into her lens, she is intrigued by him and follows him on his missions to find and trade things for people. They deliver a book to a demanding movie star, who threatens to fire Sam’s brother (who works for her) unless Sara brings her a one-of-a-kind piece of art by the end of the day. As Sam and Sara travel from St. John the Divine Cathedral to Central Park and Times Square, they meet a string of artists and musicians and reluctantly discuss their turbulent pasts. Moving smoothly from fantasy into realistic fiction, Mangum (the Hourglass Door trilogy) alternates between the two teenagers’ perspectives, creating a tense and believable romance. Sam and Sara’s searching, thoughtful conversations form the heart of this story about letting go of the past and gaining the freedom to become an artist. Ages 13–up.

Amazing!!! A modern love story- Sam and Sara (a city boy and a country girl) are joined by fate. With one simple sugar packet and a crazy adventure, they trade their way up to friendship.

This was one of the best romances I have ever read. Read it, and I might trade you a sugar packet. :D

I really liked this cute little story. Considering the short amount of time the story takes place in, the characters are very well developed. I loved all of the characters and the uniqueness of each of them. Since starting this book I have felt the urge to go sneak some sugar packets from the closest restaurant and trade them for stuff because an ongoing game of Bigger and Better sounds pretty tempting. Lisa Mangum's writing style is familiar and satisfying and I hope to soon read more of her books :-)

This book is one of my all time favorites and a huge reason why I have a dream of becoming a writer. I felt a lot of things and connected with these characters so much. I've read it a total of at least 3 times and will probably read it again at some point.

Lisa Mangum is one or my favorite writers and I look up to her a lot simply for her writing style and use of voice.

This is the story of a teenage girl named Sara, with no h, and her adventures during her first visit to NYC. I have been wanting to read this book for awhile. The cover caught my eye and then the description had me interested. I was hoping to find this story as lovable as The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight which I gave a 5 star "loved it" rating to... But, no luck.
The book was clever and quick reading. I felt the characters could have used a little bit more development because I never really felt like I knew them that well, even though there was lots of personal sharing going on. I am usually the type to either love or not finish a book, but, in this case, it was good enough to finish but I definitely didn't love it. After Hello would be a good, quick, "I'm snowed in, bored out of my mind and I just picked it up from the library" kind of book. I alway like to say if the books is worth purchasing... So, from a cover standpoint the books gets a solid B+ (looks cute on my shelf) and from a content point it's a library book (free!).

You know, I didn't think I would like After Hello, seeing as I was not a fan of Lisa Magnum's Hourglass Door. Maybe I was just being picky with The Hourglass Door, or perhaps Magnum's learned a thing or two since being an award winning author (probably a bit of both), because I really enjoyed After Hello.

It was different without being obscure, touching with only a dash of exceptable cheesiness. Arsty and agnsty, with a wonderful tour through New York.

Interesting day these two kids spent in New York! I enjoyed the story, but some of it felt a bit too unrealistic.

It wasn't really BAD but I just didn't connect with it. It was nice and short and sweet but it just wasn't the book for me. I never really got into it like I wanted to.

3.5 stars. Quite an original story. Pieces of it really irritated me, but it left behind a feeling of satisfaction.
