An enjoyable "retelling". Very queer and pretty good. It took me a while to get into it and I almost put it down. But, in the end, I did like it.

This was a funny, queer, YA romance set in post-Medieval England. I laughed out loud a lot at these characters and the anachronisms kept things lighthearted and relateable. The energy is very queer, though things are pretty tame because it is a YA romance. Some of the things that moved the main plot of the book (beyond the romances) felt contrived/like the author was trying too hard, and the main plot twists were predictable. But overall this was a really enjoyable palate cleanser of a read and I could see how a younger person who is exploring their sexuality can gain a lot from reading a book like this, though in a lighthearted and not deep way.

This book is so fun, I found myself smiling throughout. Such an entertaining read, a really lovable cast of characters with an array of tropes used in ways which still felt fresh, though the book is right up my alley, especially as I've been undergoing a Merlin rewatch. The ending felt a bit rushed, but given how enjoyable the rest of the book was, this was easily forgiveable.

SUCH a fun read. It was a really smart choice on the author's part to set the book in a post-Arthurian world, to be able to play with it and not be burdened by the actual myth. If you don't like anachronistic dialogue this book is not for you, but I thought it was fun and the Riverdale reference made me actually laugh out loud! I did feel the HEA ending was a little bit unearned but that is just the tiniest critique, and hey it's YA. Overall this book was a balm for my inner Arthurian nerd child!

I wanted to love this so bad.

An Arthurian re-telling with queer characters and lots of representation, I thought YES sign me up! What I got instead was two characters hating each other for 70% of the book, making a pact to save-face, and the rest of the book was them having a horrible time dealing with their feelings on their crushes. It was the last 10 pages of the book that only made me happy.

Where was the medieval rom-com I was promised? I felt like this book was angst and anger.
