I had no clue what I was reading the whole time, but it was pretty interesting. To be honest, I thought there would be a better balance between vampire, espionage, and eldritch, so I was a bit disappointed. Although, this was still an interesting read. Sometimes it slogged on, but I promise that it's worth it if you keep on going till the end.

For a book/series touted as a "modern vampire classic," I expected more vampire... anything. It's there, but only just.

Not a bad read, entertaining for sure, but it slogs for a while in the first half. Didn't make me want to stop reading, but man, it took me some time to trudge on through.

I was looking at the shelves I have marked this book with and I realized that I should probably add much more since this book was such a mixture of genres.

We have vampires but a totally uniques story with the simbiozis between the host and the parasitic vampire, we have dead rising at the end of the book - or better said zombies, we have scientific talk about time relativity and different dimensions, time travel etc. that open the door to scifi and there is probably something that I missed.

This was a very unusual read. At times it took me extra effort to keep on reading the book, especially where the stryline took me to Russia and to Dragosani...some parts were extra interesting but some that were Cold war talk were not so interesting to me. I guess that is because I have been small at that time, so I don't really appreciate the air that probably existed then.

On contrary, Harry's story gripped me from the start and I just wanted to know more of him. It was really interseting when his powers were finally explained at the end of the book and as well the newly gained talent he learned
Spoilergoing back and forward in time

I never expected the ending where
Spoiler Dragosani keeps waking up in Thibor's vampiric body along with him and seening how he will again and again die by his own hand! That was really something...Dragosani was a really evil character and I'm not going to miss him lol

I plan to read the second book in the series and see where it takes us.

Horribly dated politically (British as the good guys lol), paper thin characterisation, iffy pacing.... But it's also just a fucking blast, cool take on vampires and lots of really gross shit happens. Really fun read and now I guess I'll read the other 90 books in the series.

Picked this up in Copenhagen to see me through the end of the trip and really didn't expect much. 100% wrong- A great blend of sci-fi and horror. Ordered #2 before I'd finished the first and can't wait to continue Harry's story!
