The blurb on the cover says it best. It expands out post Harriet’s life to give the broader context.

I loved the author’s attempt to reclaim and refind the woman not the icon. And to point out some of the ways certain factions wanted her to be remembered is for a lot less than who she truly was.

We don’t have many records of her or her life and in that regard the author did a commendable job.

I’ve read a lot about Harriet and this one is needed though not my favorite I’ve read. But as I said I greatly appreciated the author’s efforts here to reclaim the real woman.

This book is so amazing, I first read it in school and I am so happy that we can find books that let us know what was happening.

I’m having a hard time paying attention to this audiobook. It feels dry to me. I’m fascinated by Harriet Tubman, so I’ll either give it another in book form or pick another biography of Tubman to listen to.

I thought the book did a really good job of balancing the known vs the guessed at and specified which was which. It also provided a good balance of context to related history but always tied it back to Harriet.
