Ok, so although I really liked this one, I don't think I liked it quite as much as The Darkest Minds. I definitely had trouble getting into it in the beginning, but as soon as Chubs showed up I got pulled back in. As much as I like the story, I'm really much more attached to the characters.

I thought that the whole thing with Liam remembering felt super forced. Obviously, I wanted him to remember, but maybe not so quickly. I really did like the conflict between them after that, how Liam felt betrayed by her for erasing his memories and how Ruby was torn between her love for Liam and the cause. Ok, I'll be honest here, Liam is not super interesting to me. I want him to be okay because Ruby loves him, but outside of that I could kind of take or leave him. This, of course, means that I'm not super invested in their relationship. I'm much more invested in Ruby's friendship with Chubs. I don't want it to turn into a More Than Friends thing because I don't want this to be Love Triangle YA. But their friendship is just so lovely, and I want to see more of it.

(Ok so feel free to judge me for this. In the first book, had there been a love triangle, I wanted it to be that Chubs loved Liam. We always expect the female main to be at the center of one, so I think it would have been a nice subversion. I don't think that will happen, because I feel there's definitely something going on with Chubs and Vida. I don't mean in the "they have feelings but they won't act on them" way, but in the "they're going at each other while Ruby and Liam are off having their Angsty Times" way.)

Jude. JJJJJUUUUDDDDEEEEE! I am SUPER SAD that you are dead, even though I kind of saw it coming. I mean, I want to hold out hope because we didn't see his body. But apparently, Liam and Chubs did and I don't know why they'd lie?? However, there's been a lot of dishonesty amidst the gang in this second installment, so maybe there's more to this than meets the eye.

Definitely excited for the 3rd book! Please come out soon!

Not as good as The Darkest Minds, but still really good ! I want to wait until In the Afterlight comes out in paperback to read it, but I'm not sure I can wait ! I wish this book would have had more Liam, and some Zu.

4.5 stars. This was such a strong sequel and I love this series. I like that it is a little darker than other dystopian-ish books I've read and that it has an interesting power structure in the society. I also enjoyed a lot of the characters like Jude and Vita (don't know how to spell them bc audiobook) and that all the kids have some kind of character development and a purpose for their actions. I'll defenitely continue the series.

SO GOOD! Even better than the 1st one IMO.
Where as I found the 1st one to be kind of slow around the middle, this one kept me interested from beginning to end!
The entire book did not have one dull moment!
Oh and all of the surprises!
And the new characters in this one, I loved them so much!
But that ending, ugh broke my heart :(
Can't wait for the next one, I might have to wait a year now. oh the agony.
Will be filming a video about this series soon! :)
