This was the November selection for one of the library book clubs. There was a general consensus that the sections that described the Eastern Shore of Maryland were beautifully written, but the characters were, at most, two dimensional.

The author has written a prequel to Mason's Retreat, and I find it odd that the prequel was written and released after this book. It's rather like the six movies in Star Wars, when you think about it.

My favorite part of the book was the final paragraphs.

About half of the attendees stated that they almost quit reading because the pacing seemed so slow; I had already heard this before I started the book, so I knew that I needed to stick with it. We also wondered if the publisher told the author that he needed to wrap it up and submit it, as a lot of action seemed crammed into the final 50 or 60 pages.

I don't know if I'll read the prequel.
