It's a waste of time, with the occasional torture and murder scene in between.
In concept, it's not bad, a satirical commentary on American society, but reading through it, I couldn't even be interested in it, just too boring.

It's a wild read. The first hundred pages are a bit dull but after that it's a crazy ride. Like some pages were so graphic I had to skip them but it's so gripping that you had to finish the book.

It only got interesting half way though. Skipped a few chapters at the start and the music chapters.
Listened on audiobook on x2 speed to get through quicker than reading as it’s SO BORING to read
Enjoyed the murder scenes but if it weren’t for them I would never have finished the book

Okay this book… is not for the faint of heart. It really is just a book about guy who’s crazy and loves to kill people, mixed with some cannibalism and horrific sexual encounters. I loved slowly seeing Bateman lose his sanity more and more.

A book which really reflects the flaws of certain rating categories. The main character is the opposite of lovable, that's the point. Great book for people who hate capitalism and are okay with reading about a rat eating a woman from inside out.

so so good but fucking awful. like genuinely at some points made me want to throw up. but also some of the passages really made me think about life and all that and it's really well written. it's also occasionally quite funny? which is a nice reprieve from the quite literally nausea-inducing gore. what an odd book that will definitely stick with me for a long time, for better or worse.

(there's a review further down by user ulrikemaria that basically sums up all of my thoughts on this book)

I suppose I did enjoy this book though it did take me a while to get through and I had to put it down on a number of occasions. It dragged heavily at times and if you're looking for a book with a linear plot, I would not recommend. Also, this book is DISGUSTING. I did find Patrick to be a fascinating character whose perspective is so incredibly unhinged and bizarre. I didn't mind the constant name dropping and brand obsession and I thought it was probably a somewhat accurate glimpse into the minds of the psychopathic elite.

Well, I did not enjoy this book very much. Had I not listened to the last half of the audiobook instead of reading, I probably wouldn't have finished it. It was very repetitive, gross, and altogether just not very good. I went in expecting to love it because I love horror, especially psychological, and I also enjoy satire. But I didn't really find this to be that satirical apart from the very beginning. It got old really fast. There was so much of this book that could have been cut out and nothing would have been lost from the story. You could probably read the last 50 pages and get the gist of what the entire book is about. There's pages of Patrick talking about fancy restaurants, debating with his coworkers about where to make reservations, listing off every designer brand of every item of clothing for every character he interacts with (not even an exaggeration), all the fancy food they were eating, and excessively descriptive sex scenes. I don't consider myself a prude, but these seemed intentionally gross and they went on for way too long. Maybe 20% of this book was actually him being violent or murdering people, including 3 dogs. There were also at least 3 chapters about different music artists where he just talked about their albums and what he liked - which by the last one I had just skipped it because it didn't add anything to the story. I also skipped a several page chapter where Patrick spent an hour on the phone debating with his coworkers where to eat. And, the word "hardbody" is used probably 100 times over the 400 pages in this story which really annoyed me?? Find a new word lol. I was really just not impressed 🤷🏻‍♀️
