I enjoyed this book. It definitely is not what I was expecting from the overview. Well-balanced with enough twists, cliff hangers, and new characters. I found myself cheering for Laura and deeply hating Hugo. I'm glad good prevailed over evil.

My goodness what an absolute rollercoaster! Rachel Abbott is now fast becoming my favourite crime writer, can't wait to get stuck into more.

TBH I had worked out who committed this particular murder pretty early on, I did flit between a few potential suspects, mainly due to the absolute horror of a character the victim (loosely) was.

Sir Hugo Fletcher was an extremely wealthy man on the outside he seems like an extremely charming man. He seems like the ultimate phlranphopist. He frees prostitutes from a terrible life and finds them homes and work to enable them to have a healthy life in Britain. When Hugo is found bondaged to his bed dead, Chief Inspector Tom Douglas pinpoints the death to be a sexual nature and is hunting a female killer.

The list of suspects mount up, Is it his deeply unhappy wife, Laura, whom most definetly is hiding more than a few skeletons in her cupboard. Is it her best friend Imogen, who has more than a few crosses to bear against the apparently amazing Hugo.

I don't want to delve any deeper into this review because it will just give away too many spoilers, but read it.....some families, eh?

So intriguing! Yes, I did work out the whodunnit bit quite early on, but I enjoyed the path the author took me on. Highly recommended.

Fantastic book. Tom Douglas is cute! I’m surprised what he did for Laura at the end but he made the right decision.
I didn’t know what to expect going into the book, Hugo is a vile man! A well written book. Looking forward to book 2.

More of a 3.5

Abbott is a wonderful writer and generally I liked the book. However at parts the story either went too quick or was overly convoluted and drawn out.

Was interesting from start to finish but too disturbing at times.
