Evie is 16, struggling with her father's new relationship and contemplating her future - it's all very charming and funny and sweet. A nice audiobook listen.

What a lot of fun!!! I love this book and the characters just sing from the page. I also love to hate Vera and Christine so utterly nasty and yet brilliantly funny and hilariously written. I just love the whole vibe and tone of this book, and that no matter how puzzling and confusing life is you can always find your way with a good book, cows and well Adam Faith

There aren't enough superlatives I can apply to this book without it sounding cliche or ridiculous, so I'll just say this: a wonderful coming of age novel set in the 1960s (one of the things that is, to me, the literary equivalent of catnip), which barrels in like an out of control MG in chapter 1 and doesn't stop; giggle-inducingly hilarious (courtesy of Evie's very distinctive voice) but with some poignant moments of pathos amongst all the humour, I can totally see why it's been compared to Adrian Mole, but I would also compare it to Nina Stibbe's Lizzie Vogel novels, especially sicne I believe the author has said that the plan is to revisit Evie in future books set in different decades. If so, I'm so excited to read more!
Also, a warning: this book will make you very, very hungry.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exhange for review.

Just a lovely joyful read set in the early 1960's in Yorkshire. It is jam pack full of fabulous characters, even the awful ones are well crafted and feel believable. The plot skips along at a good pace and it had me laughing out loud at various points along the way.

I have had a copy of this on my shelf for quite a while but I am glad I picked up the audio as it is brilliantly read by Heather Long who voices Evie to perfection along with the other characters in the story.

If you are looking for a wholesome lovely read that will make you smile then I totally recommend this one.

This book is hilarious, reminiscent of a teenaged Bridget Jones, or older Flavia de Luce (though perhaps not quite as bright). Heartwarming and really well developed characters. Picking up the next book immediately.
