I really wanted to like this book more, as it had a captivating beginning to the story and I loved how the author played with the story. Unfortunately, I did not understand what was the meaning behind this book and what kind of message the author wanted to convey writing up this story. Collin Braithwaite’s life was presented in a consequent way, and you can follow the development of the character, but the story in parallel felt very incoherent in places. I also disliked the detailed descriptions of suicide and methods - I am still unsure why authors provide their readers with that level of details these days, what do they hope to achieve? Not fond of the ending either. I would suggest the readers to really consider the trigger warnings before picking up this book.

I really struggled to get into this book. The idea seems really clever and maybe if it was non-fiction it would have worked better for me, but as a fiction novel the switch between the diaries and biography was jarring. It just felt a bit all over the place and I’m not sure anything really happened. Which is not always necessary, but I didn’t find the characters believable enough to carry me through the book. I was looking for a dark, page turning thriller from this book but I don’t think that’s what it was. Maybe requires a reread one day.
