I'd like to give this a 4.5. Not quite perfect, but very good.

This book is a little different from the normal Susan Stoker books, since Everly Adams is a SWAT officer and an equal partner in the investigation part of the story. She does need rescuing at the end (when she saves her sister), but she also saves the life of her partner, Kannon "Ball" Black when they're attacked. One criticism, the ending, where the heroine saves her kidnapped sister, is very similar to the same scenario in Rescuing Kassie. But overall it's an excellent installment in the series.

I've read a handful of books by this author and I have to say, this is definitely the most well written of what I've read. I can see why these books are popular with a lot of readers but I think this is probably going to be where the author and I part ways!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book provided to me through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to the author and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book and I'm sorry for the delay in my reading/reviewing; it's been a bit of a year!

Good story.
Typical Susan stoker novel though this series has a darker side, being willing to cross lines to keep people safe.
Deaf character which added a little extra.
Hero and heroine have an issue at the start as Hero messes up due to difficult experience in his past.
Loyal, protective Hero.
Strong heroine.
HEA.
Secondary characters that could have possible future storylines developing through the series and updates of previous characters in series.

ARC.

I am absolutely loving this series!

Defending Everly is Kannon "Ball" Black's story. Ball has been burned by women in his past. When his boss, Rex, tells him his next case will include a civilian woman he goes nuts.

Everly is a member of the Colorado Springs Police Department and SWAT team. When her deaf sister is kidnapped and disappears without a trace, she enlists the help of the Mountain Mercenaries.

Everly and Ball start off on very rocky ground while investigating what has happened to her sister Elise. But as time goes on, and they basically are glued together 24/7 while looking for Elise their relationship develops. Everly is amazing and I loved her character! She's tough as nails but when it comes to her family she will do whatever it takes to ensure their safety.

I highly recommend this book!
