Ugh. Short stories never seem to have the details that I love! I expected a better story.

Short and a little choppy, but I love Gail Carriger so I had to give it a shot!
My biggest complaint is that it was so short, it would do well as a full length novel!

Good, but not really my cup of tea.

Sweet, sassy, just enough fighting to spice things up, and smooches! Everything I want in a werewolf/merman adventure, right? Plus a generous sneak preview of the first novel in the San Andreas Shifters series. I'm hooked (like a fish) and will be reading more.

Cute read but it felt really rushed. The background noises were distracting and the "reverb" voice used to denote internal dialogue. I love her sense of humor and could see reading more in this series.

I love the new take on werewolf trope. These werewolves are very cliche in the beginning but once ALL the truth comes out we see the truth. These werewolves are anything but cliche. Plus there's a merman!
Currently reading book 1 and eagerly awaiting book 2.

Whenever I need a short happy read I go for this. Audio is just over 1 hr and Kindle is less. Pure comfort read.

A disappointing read. I'm honestly surprised that the author has written a NYT bestseller, because everything about this story felt clunky: heavy-handed exposition, stilted dialogue, and an abundance of telling rather than showing. The story tried far too hard to be quirky and cool, and ended up coming off as a poseur instead. I think the length worked against it, as well; doubling or perhaps tripling the length would've given the author a chance to be more subtle and leisurely in sketching out the universe for the reader.
