Incarcerated had me intrigued as soon as I read the blurb. I knew the authors writing so I had high hopes and I was not disappointed. It's a very interesting story that takes you on an emotional roller and stays with you long after you finish it.

Daughter of the prisons warden and a recluse, Katie Andreassen secretly takes part in the prisons pen pal program. Her pen pal, Logan Whyte, turns out to be a known racist with ties to the Aryian brotherhood. As they get closer through phone calls and letters, everything seems perfect. The only issue? Katie is black and for a man like Logan that’s a big problem.

I was really excited and intrigued by the premise of this book. But I feel pretty let down by it. Katie was a great main character with insecurities and fears that were relatable. Logan was..meh. And their pairing didn’t make sense to me. Logan’s actions and phrases he would use gave me major ick. While I know he was supposed to make me feel that way, I was really disappointed that Katie just dismissed/ignored them. The problem of Logan being racist was also never “solved” and he never really took steps to change.

I received this from the author and I went in practically blind. Only reading the blurb after I started listening to the audiobook. I loved this story. I will say I wanted to scream a couple of times and I think I would have liked to hear more about their evolving relationship towards the end but all in all, great story and I've already started the next book!

No billionaire in this story

I read Trent and Teal story first last year when it came out and it always stuck me. Then when I seen the follow-up for their story, had no idea it was apart of Logan and Katie's story. This isn't the standard billionaire, rosy, kissy face story. Great read.

Anything for love. The heart wants what the heart wants

That's what Katie and Logan did for love. They were totally not expecting to fall in love when they started writing to each other in the prison penpal program, but they did. Katie knew she was totally in love with Logan because of the way he made her feel. The previous men in her life did not make her feel protected and loved the way that Logan did. They were willing to sacrifice everything for each other including family ànd friends.

Logan had issues he needed to work through. He was a racist due to his up bringing. By the time he realized Katie was black, he was already a goner. He too did not want to lose her no matter what her color was. He especially did not was her to sacrifice her father and best friend for him and sought out to make sure to heal their relationship with her. He knew his getting over his feelings of distrust for black men was going to take work and help and that's just what he did for Katie.

This book was an interesting read. It accurately depicts problems that interracial couples have, not only with each other but that of their loved ones. Not only the complications of an IR relationship, add in the mix of an ex-con and how friends and family handle that news, is not easy as well. The story also shows what effects bullying has on someone even after they are grown. It manifests itself in their relationships with others in different ways.

I would have loved to have read more of the back story between Jan-Erik and Katie's mother but I'm sure that's for another book.

I wanted to love this.

I read it. All the way to the end.
That should count, right?

I'll say this; the issue was very likely me and not the story.
The writing was good, I could see the author's vision for this story, Logan and Katie. What happened? I just couldn't connect to any of the characters.
I forced myself to read it because I wanted to love them.

The idea was perfect, Caucasian male felon with racist tendencies, African American female recluse a bit ditzy. Come on, tell me it doesn't sound interesting? And the cover?! Stunning.

There were times where I thought I'd like, Maybe even love, Logan and Katie but then they both did something and that thought disappeared. As I said above, the problem may be me, I mean I did read it all. The. Way. To. The. End. And I'm a little intrigued as to what Teal and Trent's story will be like...

I liked it at the beginning, but about half way through it became really unbelievable. And in the last third of the book or so Logan was rough with Katie, almost abusive, and still she was ok by that. I was thinking this must have been written by a man.

Well, I thought this was a mafia romance. It's not and that's okay.
This is romance between an incarcerated man and his pen pal, the warden's daughter. *Sighing*

I applaud the author for taking this bold risk. Inmates are people and not all are violent offenders. My main issue was that Kathryn "Katie" was just a doormat. Her fear of conflict has reduced her to a recluse and someone who's dad and best friend run her life. It makes sense that she would quick cleave to her pen pal. It's kind of anonymous and you can be whoever or whatever you want to be on a paper. Things progressed between Katie and Logan so fast. She gave him her phone number, and so many personal information. With google and even outside friends, Katie basically gave Logan the keys to the kingdom.

To top it off, Logan was a racist and believed people should stick with their own kind. I am unsure if he continued with Katie because she was a link to a new life outside those walls. I know that personal contact can change the mind of a racist I wouldn't gamble my safety though. Giving a prison pen pal your address is unsafe. Then dating one who is racist when you are a black woman was just weird. It ended well, but I normally wouldn't encourage people think good lovin' is the magic cure-all. I know I wouldn't be comfortable having sex with someone who despises my race.
Katie was kind and not judgemental, Logan was able to change his beliefs but I don't know the probability of this romance lasting. It is a hopeful and optimistic outlook on a romance with a racist felon.
