I finally got to dive into the first of Hank Green's sci-fi duology and whilst it's not really my usual genre to read, I quite enjoyed getting to know the characters and exploring what social media and becoming famous means for them. It's a trope that can get old quickly, but Hank's take on it, combined with an intriguing light sci-fi plot made me want to keep reading. I'll read the sequel with a break in between!

I can’t believe how good this was! Not that I’m surprised that Hank Green is a good writer, just that I didn’t really know what to expect with this. I think I very much wanted to read it because I like John & Hank so much, and particularly I’ve known I like John’s books since I first read Looking for Alaska. I knew it wouldn’t be like that, but idk, I still wanted to give it a go.

So, yes. Point is, it was a good story. It was an interesting take on fame. It is sort of sci-fi, with cool characters and ideas. Loved it. Can’t wait to read the next one.

What an amazing, beautiful and unique book. I want to go page to page 1 and start all over again.

I know lots of people who loved this but as someone who just read an alien encounter written a bit casually and irreverently, Weir did it much better. I know I’m odd man out on this but I just never could connect with it.

I am shocked at how much I enjoyed this book. I wouldn’t describe it as one that I just couldn’t put down, however I was eager to finish it to know what happens.

Fun read! It felt strangely like a partial autobiography (re: the introspection about fame / rising YouTube stardom), but the plot was compelling as well. Without spoiling the end, I'll say...I felt like the final beat was missing—like it was more of a short story cut than a novel cut. But I'm not sure how else it would have ended, so I guess that's fine. Would still recommend.
