This book is great for an introductory into Greek mythology and for reverso poems. It has great pictures that can help with understanding and wonderful words to describe the myth. Most of these myths are not the typical Greek myths that people tend to hear.

Really cool premise with reversing the words to create another poem!!

Great choice for my hundredth book of the year (if I've counted correctly). I am in awe of Singer's ability to create these double poems; I'd have difficulty writing ones so eloquent in just one directions. The illustrations are just gorgeous; even without the poems, they are so fascinating. I especially liked the Gods/Mortals pairing, and Daedalus/Icarus.

I always LOVE the format of the "Reverso Poem" and it is always a joy to read them and challenge students to create one of their own. The bonus with this third installment is a small strip of text at the bottom of each page that gives a brief description of the Greek God/Goddess for kids. I think it's perfectly placed to provide enough background for the reader to 1. enjoy the poem and 2. motivate that reader to further investigate...

A reverso consists of two poems. You read the first poem top to bottom. Then, you read the poem again with the lines reversed, with changes only in punctuation and capitalization, and that second poem says something completely different. It may be spoken by the same character at a different point in time or with a different point of view, or - in this collection - it may be spoken by another character altogether.

I loved this poetry collection. I love the old Greek myths and this form of poetry was unique and offers new perspectives on these old stories. Highly recommend to lovers of Greek mythology. The illustrations are also great!

Read for Librarian Book Group
Ms. Singer has invented a type of poetry where lines can be read both forward and backward and the poem will make sense. About this type of poetry I can say that it is mostly kind of pedantic and occasionally magical.

I enjoyed the color palette and the illustrations.

I just happened to come across this and it is such a gem. There are two poems per myth, like my favorite one, Perseus and Medusa. One poem is from Persues' point of view and then flipping the poem is Medusa's point of view. The same words but the message is very different. The two poems together on the page allows the reader to benefit from both views to understand the myth. Very creative and I am looking forward to reading the other Reverso Poems this author has created.

Some poems were more well-written than others, but each one was still extremely impressive. A very creative take on Greek mythology!
