This story is sweet, emotional, and downright suspenseful. I was not at all prepared but man, I couldn’t put this down. I loved the small town setting, the found family, and the overall mystery going on. All the side characters were so good I cannot wait to carry on with this series and to read more of Catherine’s backlog. I can’t review this book without talking about the main characters. Wren has been through hell, but her strength and kindness is so admirable, I loved her so much. And Holt, hello hot stuff. He’s beyond hot, tough, protective, and a bit broody. But beyond that, he’s sweet and he’s not afraid to admit to his wrongs (anymore) and fix them. Together they’re so freakin sweet it’s almost sickening and I love them for it. On to book 2!

Tropes:
-small town
-second chance
-“it’s always been you”
-found family
-childhood friends to lovers

Hooked me in the prologue!!

I listened to Visions of You (novella prequel) and that was my first time reading a Catherine Cowles book. She’s been on my must read list forever.

Loved that story!! Loved the mystery and suspense!

So I jumped right into this one.

All the feels. So sweet. So romantic. Suspenseful! Had me guessing for most of the story. Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber are incredible storytellers and really brought this story to life.

I plan to devour the entire series as the audio rolls out.

In true Catherine Cowles fashion, she delivers a romantic suspense filled with slow burn romance and fantastic characters. It is definitely not your typical small town romance, although the cozy feel of the small town is still there to wrap you up like a warm hug. I love how she sets up the future books in the series and introduces us to all the side characters without it being distracting and still keeping to the plot of the current book. While the background of the main characters is dark and complex, you can still relate to the characters.

The worlds that Catherine Cowles builds in her series always draw me in and as per usual I was hooked on this book right from the get go. It kept me guessing the entire way through and while I had some theories I definitely did not see the twist coming. The love story is full of angst and while second chance romances are not my favorite, I did connect with Wren and Holt's story and felt their connection as the way it was written made them truly feel inevitable and meant to be.

This book would have been 5 stars for me if it hadn't been for the 10 year time jump, I personally just find such huge gaps in time entirely unrealistic and hard to wrap my head around, especially in this instance. I also feel like Wren and Holt reconciled a bit too easily and I would have enjoyed having more detail and time focused on them getting back together, however this book was still very enjoyable and addicting to read! I can't wait for the rest of this new series!

I did not see that plot twist! Romantic suspense is becoming one of my go-to, and Catherine is the best! This is my second serious I’m reading by her and it’s so so good! I can’t for the next one. In the meantime I’ll be reading her backlog.

I devoured this book! I like a second chance romance, but it’s typically my FAVORITE trope. But this book? Love. The pining, LAWD. Absolutely reading the rest of the series, and anything else Catherine writes!
