Beloved was a challenging book for me to get through. A lot of emotions were evoked and by the end of the book I felt kinda hollow. Idk how to explain it. The ending left me feeling hollow.
The writing, as always, is genius. Morrison uses all sorts of writing styles to immerse you in the story, while also triggering thought and ensuring that you actually do the work of reading. The characters are very complex and have strong personalities. I enjoyed the way perspectives would suddenly shift but in a sort of merging way. You have to experience it for yourself to truly understand what I mean.
From the get-go, the reader is tossed into the life of the characters. There’s no warning, there’s no slow introduction to what is happening. Things just suddenly happen and it’s up to you to find your bearing and adjust to the events, from page 1 🥲
This was confusing, thought provoking, very engaging, disgusting, eerie and stressful.
10/10 would highly recommend if you’re looking for something to stimulate your mind.

At least 15 years since my first time through this one, and I’m so glad I went back for another read. Toni Morrison’s narration on the audiobook is one of the best reading experiences out there.

I just didn't get along with the writing style, it was a struggle for me to follow.
