I left to SF and did not take this book with me. I might pick it up again at some point (likely as an audiobook) but not interested for now. It has not convinced me with its rambling against poor people and "scientific" explanation for how the brain works.

As I borrowed this digital copy from my library, I read it quickly. Now I will buy a hard copy so I can highlight and take notes and return to it again and again. Brilliant insight.

Over and over again the same thing in the book is the main idea Think and grow rich, which corresponds to the title of the book.I spent so much time on this as a child, dreaming and imagining wealth, sex, having a beautiful wife, etc. And nothing came true. It's common sense if you think about what to wear tomorrow, it will come true. And if you think how I will fly to Mars or become a billionaire, it's practically 0%.

"A DEFINITE PURPOSE BACKED BY BURNING DESIRE FOR ITS FULFILLMENT.

2 A DEFINITE PLAN, EXPRESSED IN CONTINUOUS ACTION.

3 A MIND CLOSED TIGHTLY AGAINST ALL NEGATIVE AND DISCOURAGING INFLUENCES, including negative suggestions of relatives, friends and acquaintances.

4 A FRIENDLY ALLIANCE WITH ONE OR MORE PERSONS WHO WILL ENCOURAGE ONE TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH BOTH PLAN AND PURPOSE.

Bargaining with Life for a penny, instead of demanding prosperity, opulence, riches, contentment and happiness.

You have a brain and mind of your own. USE IT, and reach your own decisions. If you need facts or information from other people, to enable you to reach decisions, as you probably will in many instances; acquire these facts or secure the information you need quietly, without disclosing your purpose.

"During the “flu” epidemic which broke out during the world war, the mayor of New York City took drastic steps to check the damage which people were doing themselves through their inherent fear of ill health. He called in the newspaper men and said to them, “Gentlemen, I feel it necessary to ask you not to publish any scare headlines concerning the 'flu' epidemic. Unless you cooperate with me, we will have a situation which we cannot control.” The newspapers quit publishing stories about the “flu,” and within one month the epidemic had been successfully checked.

There are definitely some good strategies to clean from this book regarding mindset, the importance of setting big, clear goals, having a burning desire for your goals, etc. There are also some bogus strategies in my opinion, including telepathy, a literal 6th sense, etc. A dated book to be sure, but the most central ideas are timeless.
