I don't know how such a short book took so long to read!

"Henry James' 1878 publication that brought him international fame, "Daisy Miller" is subtitled "A Study in Two Parts." The plot centers around a Europeanized American man named Winterbourne, who meets a nouveau riche American woman going by the name Daisy Miller. A short novel, James wields the sword of fiction to craft a "study" of the roles of men and women, social relationships, cultural intersection, the allure of money, foolishness and wisdom, the responsibilities of parents, and the impact of one's life upon others."

Back when malaria was a fear in Italy, young Daisy Miller is caught out at night with her Italian-friend. Is he her lover? The gossips all want to speculate about Daisy and her lack of morals, but after her death, those same gossips regret - ever so briefly - her passing, because she, at least, lived life to its fullest, while they stayed home brooding.

Kurang suka dengan karakter Daisy yang agak terlalu gampangan. Atau mungkin aku saja yang kolot seperti bibinya Frederick lmao.
Kasihan Frederick karena akhirnya Daisy meninggal.

3.5! My first assigned book of the semester (American Lit from 1865-1918), and it was pretty good! The characters were all very interesting, especially Daisy. Not like anything else from that period I have read.
