Overall, this was a worth-it read despite some of my grievances. I can proudly recommend this for those who are looking for cozy reads and those who like cats and maybe some tears. I found 3 out of the 7 stories felt either tedious or just an ok read. The first and the last two stories really touched my heart and made me tear up. All the cats were very loveable and it felt like they had discerning personalities. Now for the ones I did not like.  i really do not like how the author recycled The Travelling Cat Chronicles for the last two stories despite liking them. I felt that I'd known Hachi before and my suspicions were confirmed when it got to the next story where it was Satoru and Nana traveling around. It felt a bit scummy even if the stories here in particular were not told in the author's previous story. I also really loved that book and have not finished it so I feel a bit cheated. Was the author not able to come up with other stories? I have been waiting for this author's other novels and this felt a bit of a letdown. I think that for her next story she should venture outside of cat stories. For this book, I kinda felt that it would have worked better if the stories were all intertwined like the last two. That is all, I still find this story cute for the and still made me emotional that I still feel the remnants of the last two stories while writing this.

reading this book was like watching a cozy, slice-of-life anime. I cried really hard on a couple chapters because I have a pet that I love dearly. be prepared for the feels.

These short stories revolve around the relationship between cats and their humans as told from the perspectives of the cats.

The Goodbye Cat - Kota is a kitten when he's brought into the Sakuraba family. As he grows older, he attempts to change into a supernatural cat spirit (nekomata) so that death won't separate him from his human family. This one made me cry.

Bringing Up Baby - A popular manga artist and odd duck is going to be a new father when he rescues a kitten from a recycling bin and in caring for it, learns about fatherhood, surprising his wife who didn't have high hopes for him.

Good Father/Bad Father - A family is perplexed that their new cat loves an ornery father.

Cat Island - A boy and his family visit a cat island. The boy befriends a strange lady who teaches him to be more open to his step-mother.

The Night Visitor - Every cat owner's experience of being woken up.

Finding Hachi - After being abandoned and then adopted by a young boy, Hachi describes the love he has for his human even after the human has to give him away to another family. Also made me cry.

Life Is Not Always Kind - Nana is a former street cat turned house pet by a young man who after 5 years can no longer keep him. They visit the man's former professor in the hope that he will adopt Nana.

It's an emotional read, but it is a fantastic read if you're cat lover.
