Ava is trying to accept that the witches want nothing to do with her but then they show up at the manor saying they need her help to find Liz. Amica says no as a way to force Ava’s hand and to try and cut ties from them. Things get weird when Ava visits the astral plane and realizes there is another vampire like her when there shouldn’t be. Will is a hybrid just like Ava who seems like he might be able to give her some answers. Things don’t go as planned and quickly escalate. I will say I did not see that ending coming and I can’t wait to see what happens next with Ava, Will, Jasik and the rest of the nest.

Lets be real, i am absolutely loving this series. For me it is just so capitavating and i think the series as a whole so far is a solid 5 stars. And what a cliff hanger.... i mean i really did not see that coming!

So why did i want to give this book 3 stars? I have a bit of a gripe with the formatting of this series.
Firstly i want to point out that i don't limit myself with my budget for books. They are my life and i will continue to support authors, Danielle Rose included. However, despite what goodreads says this book is actually only 151 pages. It successors and predecessors are between 180-200 pages. Did this really need to be a 5 book series? the whole thing will barely hit 1000 pages, it could very easily have been a duology or a trilogy. Is that enough for me to drop a star. YES! They are all getting relased in the same year, they are all less than 200 pages on average and they cost $17 each. $85 for less than 1000 pages and they are paperbacks. i can buy the entire HP series in paperback for $65 and it would hit well over 3000 pages. Midnight Sun is 740 pages and was $22. I just don't see why the author did this. Had i seen the size of these books in shops rather than buying blindly on line i would never have bought them for the price.
This could have been released as a beautiful hard back trilogy and then i woukd have happily paid $85 but the way this has been done feels like its taking advantage of tge readers. This sounds mean but it feels like a marketing ploy.
I would be more forgiving if this was middle grade but its YA!

Sorry but its how i feel.

Will i continue with the series, of course but i can't deny this has made me a little angry.

Woah... So starting this saga was a risk for me. I hadn't ventured into this genre much in the past but with each book in the Darkhaven saga, I seem to fall in love with the story, the characters, the author's ability to suck me into a plot filled with mystery and suspense.

In book three. Ava starts to feel like she finally belongs with the vampires, she's learning what it means to be a hybrid, but when her best friend ends up going missing, she is stuck on how to let go of her past when someone she loves is in danger. She finds out that she isn't the only hybrid, but is what she feeling real or is it a dream? Well, at first she thinks it's all a dream, but when she's out hunting, she comes face to face with another just like her.

What's going to happen? Will Ava be able to find her best friend? Who is this other hybrid? and what does it all mean? Well... You will have to read and find out!

Danielle Rose left me on the edge of my seat at the end of this one and I am eager to see what else she has planned for this plot. This was enticing and the author's ability to grab my attention has not let up since book one. The way the author is developing this plot and these characters has me completely obsessed, she is building and building and it's driving me nuts with wanting to know what happens next, but driving me nuts in all the right ways!

I can't recommend this enough!

5 Stars!

REVIEW :

DISCLAIMER : Thank you, YA Bound Book Tours for letting me be a part of this tour and for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Dark Promise is the third book in the Darkhaven Saga. Things are shaking up in Darkhaven. Eva is happy to be part of vampires, they are getting along and she also has settled in pretty well. When things are starting to look up witches enter the scene bringing in more problems and Eva being Eva wants to help them resolve the problems. Her loyalty is tested and she has to choose between her family who sent her away and her new family who took her in and supported her. Eva as a character is still an emotional teenager, acting often as a child would. Her decisions still make her the target and people around her are starting to get weary of her behavior. The magic she can harness is still new. There are some new players in town. Are they friends or foes? The only time will tell. There are some interesting developments in this book. I am still not shipping the romance. I don't really care for the flip-flopping inner monologue of Ava who seems to be always in a confusion with her feelings and emotions. The new characters bring in some intrigue and action. The witches and Vampires are still at odds despite Ava's good intentions to help them. I thought this book brought more excitement than the previous two books with some new interesting developments. The way the story ended in a cliffhanger of sorts making me want to know more about where the story is going. I am excited and interested in finding out how Ava and her group of vampires will deal with the exciting and shocking turn of events in this book. I gave the book 3.5stars. I think the story is getting interested and hopefully, we will get to know more about the magic and the limitations on witches and the hybrids. I would recommend this book to new-to-fantasy readers who would enjoy the simplicity of the story and the world. It was fun, engaging and entertaining to read and will keep you wanting to read more.

Waterhouse Press kindly sent me a copy of Dark Promise and I am extremely thankful that they did! This series just gets better with each book. Dark Promise left off with some crazy things happening and I really need to know what happens next! In this book you really see how too trusting Ava is. It keeps getting her into trouble and she needs to get that under control. I still love her character but she can make some stupid mistakes sometimes. The slow burn romance in this book is making me scream and I just need them to be together already. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Last book left us with Liv in danger. Ava feels compelled to help free her. Liv was her best friend before Ava turned vampire and she feels a connection to her, even if it’s not reciprocated. She can’t stand the thought of Liv possibly dying at the hands of Rogues and is desperately trying to figure out how to save her.
Amica is the head of the vampire nest. She is trying to protect Ava and makes her swear a blood oath. This will prevent Ava from searching for Liv alone. She makes her do this because Amica has decided that the nest will not help the witches. This leaves Ava in distress.
Jasik is Ava’s sire. A blood oath should only be sworn between to a sire. When Jasik finds out that Amica forced Ava to do a blood oath, he is furious. Ava is his, but Amica is his sire and leader of the nest. This puts him in a precarious situation.
On top of all this, a new vampire appears. Will shows up to Ava in her dreams. He is a hybrid too, part witch, part vampire. He has learned how to handle both parts of his essence, Is he the answer to all of Ava’s questions? Only time will tell.
Opinion
I loved this book! There are so many twists that it is hard to guess what will happen next. I certainly did not predict how the book would end. I’m certainly (not so) patiently waiting for the next book in this series.
I’m a bit upset that I’m halfway through the series though. How can there only be five books. There needs to be more! Five is not enough!
Overall, there are so many subplots that I find it hard to pick my favorite. This latest edition in the Darkhaven series does not disappoint. It does leave me with lingering questions though.
*Can a witch/vampire forsake one side of their essence and embrace the other?
*Will Ava and Jasik ever give in to their desires for each other?
*Can the witch coven and the vampire nest learn to coexist, if only for the benefit of Ava?
*How does Will affect the relationship between Ava and Jasik? Will he become the new beau?
*How will Amica make it up to Ava (and by extension Jasik) for forcing her to do a blood oath?
*How does the final scene affect the relationships between Ava and: the coven, the nest and Will?
*How is Danielle Rose such a genius? I mean, really! This series is phenomenal.

Dark Promise takes this series to another level! Each book is filled with new plot twists and surprises that I never see coming. Just when Ava is starting to feel comfortable with her new vampire coven, she discovers that her best friend has disappeared. Torn between the pain of how the witches have recently treated her, there's still nothing she wouldn't do for Liv. Definitely read each book in order, but hang on for a ride into a world that will have your head spinning. Beautifully written with wonderful characters, I love watching Ava grow into her powers through discovery.

I recieved Dark Promise in a Goodreads Giveaway.
Ava is a vampire/witch hybrid whose friend Liv has disappeared. Liv's mom and her coven approach Ava to help find Liv but the ties to her vampire family leave her unable to help.

I enjoyed this book fairly well. It's a little more YA than what I typically enjoy but it held its own. The character development and relationships were a little underwhelming but I bet if I had read the series from book 1, it would have been better.

Overall, I give it 4 stars. If I end up reading the first 2 and find the characters have developed better from there, I'd give it 5.
