I heard Claire Shipman speak about this book at a women's leadership conference in Boston. And I thought I had heard enough of the main points, which include the importance of confidence for success and leadership in life, and the difference in confidence between women and men. But then I picked up the book and found it full of important details. I highly recommend this book to all women and parents of girls.

Empowering book for women to understand that confidence is a key factor for success.

2.5 stars. I have to admit, I read this quickly with the aim to just get through it; I didn't really allow the ideas to marinate in my brain, which I'm sure has a lot to do with the less than stellar rating I gave the book. I felt like there wasn't really anything here I hadn't heard before, but it was nice to have all of these ideas in one place and tied together with a common theme.

The feminist in me wants to love every page of this book, however, I almost died of boredom. Felt repetitive.

I really thought this book was great. I was fascinated to learn that (among many other things) there are actually neurological differences between men and women, which make women more likely to ruminate and doubt themselves. In many cases, this leads to inaction in women, whereas men are hardwired to just keep plugging along whether they succeed or fail. Somehow just knowing that feels empowering. It allows me to recognize in myself when I doubt/ruminate, shut it down, and get on with it. Less thinking. More doing.
Great book!

I learned a lot from this book. Good mix of science and practical application. A hit too narrative for my taste, but well worth a read.
