This book is in a weird kind of space where it denounces a particular type of racism while participating in a couple other kinds of racism at the same time. I'd really like to sit down with the author for a nice cup of tea and explain the differences between active racism based on fear/hate, and unintentional racism based on ignorance. I had some concerns after reading vol. 1 that something like this would happen, but I didn't expect a character to straight up be wearing a war bonnet??? Like... yeah, feathered headdresses are cool, but maybe... make up a new one for a fantasy race of fairies???
That said, I'm really enjoying the story overall! Theo is very easy to root for, and I like the addition of other kiddos trying to take the kafna test!
