This story was just not for me.

If you came in to read a thriller/crime/mystery I feel that it is not the right book for you either. The book should have been classified into family drama/relationships.

Harper does a good job laying down the scenery and hitting you with the death straight up but then it all goes very very slowly. The pacing was a drag and there’s just so much dialogue about the past that I wanted more action.

The ending was uneventful and the reveal was kind of anticipated through all the family abuse. I didn’t connect with any of the characters so that just made the whole read harder as well. I felt no suspense.

Slow to begin, storyline falls in place and becomes more enjoyable towards the end.

2 hours into the audiobook and a lot of the details are flying over my head. Trying to really get into it but I just think this one isn't for me.

Listen, this probably isn’t a “new favorite of all time” 5-star, but it was a damn good time and it felt SO NICE to get truly sucked in to a book again.

I LOVED the setting so much and I really could imagine all the different characters. There aren’t so many shocking twists in this one, but Jane Harper is quite good at building tension so that you just want to keep reading and reading and reading.

I’m SO GLAD that I picked this one up. For some reason, I had let a person on YouTube convince me that maybe I wouldn’t like this book because SHE didn’t like this book (or Jane Harper’s other two) but I’ve really liked all three of hers that I’ve read, and I’ll definitely be picking up her next one.
