There didn’t seem to be a plot line. I couldn’t get into it. And the bit that I jumped around to to see if it got better made me feel gross. I don’t think I’m made for dark romance. I didn’t realize this was a dark romance when I bought it.

oh i ate this up. i was iffy about it at first, but fell in love after the first few chapters. greek mythology retellings will always have my love! this was a loose retelling and everything about it was sexy.

Was Promises and Pomegranates my favorite dark, mafia romance of all time? No. Was it still a fun, smutty, gory time? Yes. I picked it up because my IRL bestie has been begging me to for years. Add it to the list of Hades and Persephone retellings that I'll recommend. I liked how chaotic it was; it wasn't the most believable but I still enjoyed it.

Elena is an interesting FMC because she's both innocent (read: virgin-ish 🙄) and violent (read: kicks ass too). She doesn't want to marry her fiancé but she also doesn't want to be whisked away from her family with her new husband Kal. She's stuck. I think these FMCs are my favorite in mafia romances because they are truly up creek without a paddle. Kal is the kind of morally black, murdering, tragic past I've come to expect from mafia as well. Overall, their romance was hot and heartfelt-ish.

Read this is you like bookish MCs, morally black MMCs, knives (🥵), MMCs who k*ll anyone who harms the FMC, Hades and Persephone retellings, kink exploration, and FMCs who realize just how much of a badass they really are!

I kind of enjoyed it I loved the epilogue and in general the ending. BUT he slept with her mom in the past which is weird but okay I guess like her mom is shitty yk but he didn't even chase after her and I felt like sleeping with her as a solution I don't know its not enough yk? I loved the Beginning though that he just killed her fiance and married her I was into that but the problem solving not good at all so I would give it like 3☆
