I read this series about 8-9 years ago in my early preteens. And my memory of this is that’s the entire series is fantastic. But I know if I got back and read it now In this current day I would hate the entire series. So as a result I am not going to reread it and leave it as a pleasant memory in my head and give each book five stars because that’s what I would’ve gave it when I read it. This is for you 11 year old me.

Well...I find myself at a loss for words as I close this book after the last page. It is not what I expected so I am totally blown away at the way the story line for this 3rd installment in the series was laid out. Jam packed with chapters that keep you on the edge of your seat, this book delivered an amazing next chapter for Vladimir, a half human-half vampire teenager.

We find that Vladimir's mental list of enemies increases yet again and his very existence continues to be at stake; no pun intended. Nightmares, gruesome and not to mention disturbing in nature, continue to haunt Vlad's every chance for sleeping and Vlad has to try to find a way to make these stop and the only way may be to face his mortal enemy yet again. Meanwhile, his powers continue to grow stronger throughout the book as he meets new friends.

I literally could not put this book down. In my opinion, it's the best in the series so far. The only problem I have right now is I must locate where the 4th book is because i'm intensely curious to see where Heather Brewer took Vlad next. As his powers continue to grow stronger, the emotion described in the story becomes more intense and even though Vlad is a fictional character, I uh think ;), I couldn't help but sense how Vlad was feeling at many points of this book.

Now, when I said at the beginning that I find myself at a loss for words, this is what I mean: I can't think of one thing that I wish could have been described in this book because I don't feel that anything was lef tout, if that makes sense. Aside from Harry Potter, I have never thoroughly enjoyed a book as much as I enjoyed this one. Now, naturally, I imagine that after Brewer wrote 'Tenth Grade Bleeds,' she was found with a challenge as how she could possibly build on this book. I guess there's only one way to find out. I must read 'Eleventh Grade Burns.'

My notes:
September 9, 2011 – page 167
57.19% "For a teen fiction, i've just read a very disturbing and horrifying dream that Vlad has. Still love it though!!"
September 10, 2011 – page 177
60.62% ""I'm so Goth, People ask me to autograph boxes of Count Chocula." Classic!!"
September 10, 2011 – page 200
68.49% "This book is so intense! The best i've read in the series yet!! There's a moment I just read past where Vlad does something he was very afraid of and breaks down. OMV!!"
September 11, 2011 – page 230
78.77% "Oh snap & oh my Vlad!! All hell jus broke loose!!"

EDIT 1/1/2023: Due to a mixture of Twitter activity and other personal differences of belief regarding gender, I can no longer support my former favorite author. I loved this series, but I also can't support her/him/they, what have you, after some of the personal interactions I've had with this author on Twitter. Rude at times... lying about unfollowing fans, etc. I wish it were different. 1 star.

As I said when I read the ARC of Eleventh Grade Burns, I really like this vampire series: no sparkles, but an interesting twist on vampire lore mixed with adolescent boy angst.

Yes, I'm reading this series backwards - next up with be Ninth Grade, which apparently Slays.

The series has gotten better as it has gone along. Vlad is growing up. He is dealing with protecting Meredith, other's perception of him, his best friend struggling between being his friend and being cool, Eddie replacing Bill & Tom has ambusher, and dark desires to give into dark desires. Some of the more fanciful moments seem a little disconnected, not as tightly woven into the storyline.

I have been reading this series of book. Not one after the other but every 2nd book has been the next in this series and I must admit this is the best book out of this series by far. It gets more in depth into the vampire world and a lot more evil. I can't wait to read what is in store for Vlad next. These books are great and even though they are in the Young Adult genre I am quite enjoying these as a introduction into the vampire world.

Disclaimer: I have not read the first two books and had no knowledge of the plot before I found a copy of this book for two dollars and was intrigued enough by the cover to give it a try without realizing it was the third book in a series.

However, I feel that this book can pretty much be read as a stand alone because there is so much repetition in the writing. It seemed like every other page was a recap of Vlad biting Henry when they were kids, Joss staking Vlad, or D'Ablo trying to kill Vlad. I don't think I missed much from the previous books.

The writing for this book was okay. A lot of repetitive language and not much character development outside of Vlad's constant teenage vampire angst. I usually like characters (especially males) who show an emotional side, but it seemed like Vlad was either sobbing or at least tearing up on almost every page.

The plot was slow and overall the book felt choppy. A week would fly by between chapters, making the timeline seem really long without much insight into events in between.

The fight scenes were good, a little gory with great detail.

Overall, an okay book. I won't be continuing the series, but I don't feel like it was a waste of time. A pretty easy book to read with a cool cover, but not a lot of substance.
