In the category of mind candy, this is a wonderful story. I love that the lady in this book is well educated. But as life would have it, there are unexpected twists and turns she was not planning on her way to that dream job. The story was entertaining with drama and a few chuckles along the way. I found that I could not put down the book ...

If you need a break from emotional drama and challenging reads ... take a break with this book.

Pretty good. I liked the suspense. The “crap on a cracker” comments were lame. Also the f bomb on like the second to last page was ridiculous. It was clean the whole book. Why throw that in there. Lame.

Pretty basic Janet Evanovich. Comfortingly silly.

Riley was the dumbest fictional smart person in the history of fiction!
I never thought I'd give Lorelei King a bad voice review, but how could she do the voice of a gun-totin', Nascar lovin' Texan woman without a Texan accent?

1.5 stars. I didn't hate it but just barely finished. I'm familiar with Evanovich's other series so I knew what to expect. This is like watching a bad spinoff of a show you find funny. Watered down and bland. Even the dialog, which is always goofy/quirky in her books, was repetitive and forced. And if you're going to start a series with a female lead - at least make sure she has some personality and an interesting background to use. Would not recommend.

Nancy Drew meets Raiders of the Lost Ark with a detour via the X Files .
This is really a HORRIBLE HORRIBLE book . Evanovich writes to people with a 6th grade education and throws in a big word now and then to make them feel smart .
The plot is inconceivable to the point of being Paul Bunyan-ish . The characters are trite , stereotypical , and forced . The dialogue is worse than a late night B Movie script.
If I could rate it less than 1 star I would . Is there a negative star rating ?

Riley Moon has just started work at a prestigious bank, Blane-Grunwald. She was an intern at the bank while attending Harvard, and was happy to join onto the team once she graduated. Her first assignment is to meet with Emerson Knight, a very important (read rich) client of the bank. She is warned that he is ver eccentric and to calm him down and reassure him that his portfolio is in good hands. Eccentric does not even begin to describe Emerson. He lives in a mansion that is part Hansel and Gretel and part The Adams Family. He also has a variety of exotic pets, including but not limited to, zebras, an armadillo, and a capybara. He communes with his shaman and meditates and believes he can cloud people's minds. Fortunately, he is total eye-candy. Riley tries to reassure him, as she has been told to do, but Emerson wants to see his gold. Actually, physically see it. When she takes him to see her boss, she is assigned to him while he looks for Günter, the missing Grunwald brother whom he has been dealing with. With the two of them together, and Emerson in the lead, their trouble has only just begun!

This book was fun. The banter between Knight and Moon was laugh out loud funny. Some of the situations were a little farcical, but I actually really liked that. It was goofy, silly fun. There was some romantic ideas mentioned for future books between our leads, but I don't think it will kill the chemistry. The side characters were a little bit to exaggerated, but they were fun because it was like a cartoon mixed with James Bond. You probably cannot imagine that, but if you read this book you will totally get it. Read the book, it is a great laugh!

I so wanted to love this story. The characters were cute and quirky, which is typically what I like but there was something just off. They didn't seem complete. The story was okay but I was looking for more.
