Ā This was another audiobook-required-to-finish-it book for me this year. I read the first 30 or 40 pages on Kindle but couldnā€™t stay focused, so I rented the audiobook and FLEW through it. Did I read Reddit theories to patch in parts I missed?? Absolutely. This was still a fantastic read. I enjoyed the plot twist at the end revealing you-know-what, and honestly, I probably shouldā€™ve seen it coming sooner. Fantastic writing from the perspective of someone descending into madnessā€¦ or rather someone at the hands of severe mental illness?? Regardless, Mona Awad slayed with this, and Samantha Hanratty NEEDS to play a role if this ever hits screenwriters. Side note: When playing Sophie Amossā€™ reading on Audible at 3x speed, she sounded like Peyton List, and I could only imagine her speaking. It was so frustrating.Ā

Stunning, fascinating, sad. Couldnā€™t believe some of the stories. A painful read at times. Beautiful writing.

Both praising and criticizing thisĀ  feels wrong, as it containsĀ  fairly detailed accounts of abuse. However, it was extremely well written and constructed, allowing for a reflection on the broader systematic workings of power relations in religion, family and education. Even though a memoir, it was at times written with so much detail and emotion that I had to remind myself I was listening to a non-fiction work and not a novel by Barbara Kingsolver. Unfortunately, it feels like the legal challenges the author apparently faced, which forced her to include disclaimers, paraphrase and use pseudonyms, somewhat hampered the overall impact of the story.Ā

I donā€™t have the words to explain how profound an experience reading this book was. All I can do is highly recommend it to everyone I know who reads.Ā

One of the finest memoirs Iā€™ve ever read. Wholly insightful and brutally honest.

Westoverā€™s writing is so visceral. She describes each memory with vivid detail. It is impressive and intentionally uncomfortable.

This story was so compelling and very moving.Ā

Omg. This story... This person. It's been a long time since I've repeatedly yelled at the sky while experiencing an audiobook.Ā

In Educated, Westover has given an incredible, inspiring, and heartbreakingly traumatic story of her life. I know it will stay with me for the rest of mine.
