Hilarious!
Eden and Ghua's story literally had me on the floor. The naivety of the fey is totally endearing. I think I might have been like Eden though. Too smart, afraid and independent to trust these guys

4 stars — Goddamn these books are addicting. I started this one before bed and stayed up until 3am to finish it. I mean, they’re not perfect, but they are seriously compelling. Something about them just keeps me coming back for more. I should be reading other things, but I can totally see myself finishing this series, b/c I’m sunk in, you know?
Eden was an intriguing heroine. She was SUPER cynical, and rightfully so. I can fully imagine her attitude developing in that way after what she went through after the “apocalypse”. I loved that she was pretty strong, smart, and determined. I mean, she didn’t always make the best decisions, but she did what she thought she had to.
It was so hard to watch her completely misunderstand Ghua’s intentions though. NOT that I blame her, I would have taken it the same way if I was in her shoes…but since we, as readers of the series, already know what’s up with the Dark Fae, we know what Ghua meant. The problem is that in the context of the book, it made for another kind of kidnapper fetish book…it lives on the edge of what’s acceptable. If this relationship had played out in the real world, I would not have been cool with it. But it’s like you throw in a different species, and I’m suddenly more forgiving. Maybe it’s just a safer space to explore that kind of fantasy b/c it’s not real? I don’t know…it made me think about myself.
Ghua was both frustrating and adorable. He really didn’t help his cause with Eden a lot of times. But I loved how persistent he was, while respecting her boundaries. When he asks her if she wants to be twelve again, I just about melted. So much in one sentence.
I wasn’t a huge fan of the tiny side story of the things she finds in Ghua’s house that mortify and worry her. I sort of get the point, trying to show that they are kind of like teenage boys…but it felt a bit over the top to me.
So yeah. I’m super glad I continued in the series, it’s been just as fun, if not more. I can’t wait for the next 2 stories!

This might be one of my favorites in the series so far. It had an unexpected humour that puts a smile on my face. Ghua is so gentle, patient, and kind through the entire story, even when Eden viewed him as a villain, someone to fear. Eden was a wonderful heroine, she was realistic and a true survivor. Seeing her slowly start to trust Ghua after his many attempts to reassure her and try to communicate with her was so rewarding.
