I certainly enjoyed aspects of this. I will say that I don't think I fully "got" it. It's not what I usually read and that's okay. Kinda wish I knew more about Christianity after reading it so I could match up more of the story. It's definitely not necessary to have any religious knowledge or context, but I think it probably makes the book more interesting.

SPOILERS:
I was listening to the audiobook and had to stop and switch over to the ebook once I was like halfway through the section with the general because I got too stressed and couldn't handle hearing it out loud anymore lol

Edit: Okay this is why I need book club. I just read an article and was like "oh yeah - I did have that thought, I just couldn't untangle it from my brain." Clearly I need to discuss what I'm reading if I'm actually going to absorb it in any meaningful way.

Interesting and not entirely unbelievable, but ultimately a little disappointing. I think there was just a little too much going on for such elliptical treatment in a relatively short novel. Recommended read, but it’s not mind blowing.

Raw and depressing. I can’t stress enough how badly this book made me want to drink an entire bottle of wine in one sitting. Hats off to Millet for her honest, driving portrayal of climate change told through a child’s lens.
Overall, it was a compelling story which kept me interested, but felt a little too real.
