I had heard that Saga was going on a year sabbatical so while reading this collection I thought maybe it's a good idea because it seemed to be "coasting"

but

Then it ended (No spoilers) and holy crap what an ending!
Ok, I can't wait a year to find out what happens next!
I'm cursing you Brian Vaughan - end the sabbatical early.

Recommended
for 60% of the book it was 3 stars
for the next 20% of the book it was 4 stars
and the last 20% of the book it was a solid 5 star
So....we'll average it out to 4 stars and me really wanting to read the next installment.

MY FUCKING HEART

This series tore me apart and I just want to know who gave them the RIGHT to do that. Yes, I am crying, please respect my privacy at this time. Saga has completely blown me away, with its humor, its worldbuilding, its action, its lovable characters, and the amazing graphics. I fell in love with Marko and Alanna easily and all the other interesting characters along the way. This journey has been painful and this vol ended with an absolute fucking gut punch that I was not ready for. Brian K Vaughan has no regard for these characters and will rip your heart to shreds and honestly, I applaud him for that. I loved all it had to say about war, politics, violence, and pacifism.

My only caveats were I wish the story was more consistent with its subplots. There is no clear "villain" in this story which may have been intentional, but when new villains would pop up I had trouble becoming invested in them. I also wanted to see more of characters like Gwendolyn, she was so amazing and I think Doff and Upsher should have been introduced way earlier in the series.

I don't know when Brian K Vaughan will resume this series, but I know I will have a blast regardless. With some meh volumes in the middle, this entire series is a 5 stars and a personal fave.

This was way too short. I’m crying. Literally. I need the 10th volume right now omg.
