Hmm... still deciding how I want to rate this. The MC is... annoying to say the least. Ignorant bullheaded teenager crashing her way through a world she doesn't know and endangering herself and everyone trying to keep her alive without ever stopping to think things through before she acts. Very much like the MC in Labyrinth but without the 80s camp and Jim Hensen puppets for levity. The "romance" itself was also odd. MC and the faery prince go from uneasy truce to ride-or-die crush whiplash fast with little explanation for the change of heart. (SO. FRUSTRATING.)

That being said, the world is a great romp through classic Celtic lore mashed up with Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream, and (as mentioned) a touch of Labyrinth. The story itself was fun, and I enjoyed the side characters immensely. Puck and Grimalkin were my favorites. I did like this enough to continue on, so fingers crossed things improve in book 2.

Update Nov 2023:

Continuing this series was worth it and while this book has its flaws, I'm so happy I gave the sequels a chance. Definitely a favorite.

The concept of this book was really new. Exciting plot line which only increased throughout the series and extreme emotional rollacoaster. I loved it :D

This book took me over a year to read. I don't really know why I finished it. It did not hold my interest at all. I definitely see the appeal but the characters did not grip me and the plot was good, but not super interesting to me. I will not be reading the rest of the series.

I just can't. To me, Meagan is so stupid and annoying. Everything else is just too predictable.

DNF@34% FMC was too dumb to tolerate her behavior, speech and thinking. This book was categorized as YA but I felt it was mainly for the lower side of the spectrum instead of the age 16-18 range that I normally got to read in YA. The world building was unique but not enough to keep me reading
