Maybe it just wasn't for me? I saw the movie first as an FYI. The beginning was really slow like I thought I was a quarter of the way through and then looked at Libby and I was only 2 hours on. It's good but it just didn't capture me as much. In the moment I enjoyed it but it wasn't something I picked up because I absolutely needed to know how the story continued.

Not what I expected it to be. Post apocalyptic book with ‘hungriest’ (zombie like creatures) Thoroughly enjoyable story although gross at times

I loved this! Bought it thinking it may be a similar vibe to Stranger Things but it turned out to be so much more. Very similar premise to the Last of Us Show with the same parasitic infection that controls humans, which I really enjoyed as the science is there and is quite unsettled to think about.
Definitely a graphic description sort of book if you have a weak stomach, there's a few scenes that made me a bit queasy, but the story is compelling enough to get past that. Loved it!

I picked up this book because I liked the title and the cover. Also, I read the first few lines, and they caught my attention.

It turns out this is an apocalyptic nightmare book (written for teens?) that pits the hungries, people infected with a fungus that takes over their brains, causing them to have a taste for human flesh; the junkers, survivalists who compete with the hungries; and those who are studying the second-generation of hungries.

It's not a bad book. It has just five main characters, so it's easy to keep track of who is who. They are pretty much characters without a lot of depth, so their motivations are simple.

But the main character -- the second-generation hungry, who knows who she is and is discovering why -- is a finely drawn character with charm and intelligence. She might not have all the gifts, but she is picking them up quickly.

It's a nice, easy weekend read.
