I'm a sucker for a book with characters from a different culture and even more so for a second chance romance.  And a retelling of a Jane Austen novel.  Hello, I was all in.

I liked the characters and thought the author did a good job with the retelling.  It may have been the setting of the Muslim community or it could just be me and my moods, but I did think the story was a little detailed for the setup and rushed towards the end.  I would have been a bigger fan if that was smoothed out a little.

But ultimately this had great characters in a community I know nothing about.

I need to stop reading purported Persuasion retellings because there seems to be an epidemic of misunderstanding the core characters and conflicts.

If I set that aside, however, I can see the appeal of this narrative. The world the author constructs is rich, and I enjoyed the mix of familiar and freshly specific. I didn't love the over-reliance on multiple flashbacks, much less with the 'gotcha' twists, but I acknowledge the target audience will be more accepting. Glad I finally met this author's work, but hardly a favorite.

Nada was bold, intelligent, strong and driven character. This is one of my favorite stories I read this year. I related so much to Nada especially in her elementary school years. Nada and Baz relationship was complicated from the very beginning. Nada feelings towards her company was valid especially when people told her to get over it. this book is on the list with one of my favorite reads this year. i felt like baz and Nada didn’t fix a lot of the issues towards the end of the book. I maybe toxic because I was rooting for them the entire book.

This was my second read from Uzma Jalaluddin and I loved it just as much as the first (which is to say I loved it a lot). This has everything you could want from a rom-com: warmth, emotion, humour, drama, intriguing back stories, evil nemeses, 10/10 chemistry, pining and a few fabulous twists. I didn't realise I was such a sucker for a second chance romance but Uzma proved me to be very wrong. This is a love story between one woman and her Muslim community, her family and friends and the man she couldn't forget and I had such a lot of fun with it.
