Did I enjoy it? Yes. This is the second Christina Lauren book I’ve read after the book club at Saltwater Bookshop in Kingston suggested it. Was I skeptical that I would like it when I opened up the first one, The Paradise Problem? Yes, but then I sat out on my deck, read it, and right after finishing, I immediately requested The Soulmate Equation from my local library. Did I sit on my deck again and read The Soulmate Equation in three days? The answer is also yes.

Christina Lawson is a pseudonym for the writing team, and best friends Christina Hobbs and Lauren Billings, which also gives me the feels like I and my best friend could be a writing team together someday. I felt the same from reading The Expanse by another duo, James S. A. Corey. We all need book-writing fantasies and that is mine.

The Paradise Problem was about a pair who marry during college so they can live in student housing. They go their separate ways, and then the gentleman pops back in to ask if the heroine would pretend they are still married so he can attend a family wedding and he can not lose his inheritance. Okay, it is not Middlemarch, but this is the plot fun I’m here for in the summer on my deck.

The Soulmate Equation sets up the heroine who reenters the dating world through DNA compatibility matching, and she is matched up with the hottie who is about to take this company to an IPO. I think this story could also be a setup for a dystopian Big Brother nightmare, but here it is a fun romance. It’s summer, and I’m on my deck, so I’m here for it.

This book was SO cute. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did, but the story fell together in a great way. Kind of predictable at times but there were definitely times I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. There’s a lot to like with the relationships Jess has with everyone around her. This book is a great light-hearted read!

I wasn’t expecting to like this book as much as I did, but I loved it. I love how it ended and all the characters. The way River became like a dad for Juno really warmed my heart. I also loved the relationships between Jess and both her grandparents and Fizzy. I want a friendship as strong as Jess and Fizzys, who are there for each other no matter what and always show up when the other needs them. However I really want to know what their score actually was, I also want a follow up and to see Fizzes story cos the girl deserves a happy ending too! Overall, I would definitely recommend this book. The only reason I didn’t finish it sooner is because I’m too tired from work when I get home to do much reading 🤦‍♀️😭

Love the story. Always sweet to read a happy ending for a single mom. Unique storyline and concept. The idea of having a potential soulmate based on biological factors initially is really interesting and would be so much better than “fast dating” apps for those looking for true compatibility & long lasting relationships. So it’s a cool premise. It did feel a little rushed to me at the end and although the romance was “forced proximity”, it didnt happen overnight or feel disingenuous. I guess I just wish there was longer buildup and more info into their relationship. There was enough, it just seemed not enough. But overall, a really sweet, great story.
