Nope.

I started out down to ride, but no. The long introduction of the characters ended up being completely unnecessary because it didn’t go anywhere. Zero character development. Zero relationship development. And that out of nowhere relationship that sprung up for 5 seconds was so cliché YA and just so 🙄

WAAYYYYYY too unrealistic without being intriguing enough to suspend my disbelief. Sending teenagers to the moon? Sure, it’s not like astronauts have to endure years of intense training and be hella knowledgeable or anything. And what exactly was the point of this teenage space mission? Funding? But they knew…? I simply didn’t understand.

And the most disappointing thing was that all of these issues could have been excusable in exchange for a good horror story, but no. Scary? Um, no. Not for a single moment. The “monster”  in this story was disappointing and felt a tad silly. Plus, the how and why of the
Spoilerdoppelgängers
was never explained.

Overall predictable ending-
Spoiler everyone on the moon dies and Mia’s doppelgänger comes back to earth to take over the planet.

Tihi den var silly goofy og ukomfortabel. Hørte halvdel er tennåringsangst og den andre halvdelen er generell angst.
Man ble godt kjent med karakterene, noe som gjorde alt mye mer trist. Veldig gøy, slukte den på to dager

I had to check it out twice of the library just too finish it .I would say if you like sci-fi/ you school check this out .. some parts I would be like how could they do that ..but by the end of the book I understand everything ..

The twist at the end still haunts me to this day... The reason I keep a book I read in 2015/2016(?) in my StoryGraph & GoodReads. It has stuck with me.

MIND BLOWN. BUT ALSO VERY TERRIFIED. I'M SURE I'LL HAVE NIGHTMARES TONIGHT. I NEED VERY HAPPY BOOKS AT THE MOMENT TO RECOVER.

I would have to agree with several of the low reviews for this book, for some reason it felt like the fact this was a young adult novel allowed the author to create impossible and cheesy scenarios and everyone would just go along with it.

- Sending teenagers to the moon in the first place.. just would never happen
- Choosing teenagers with the most shallow motivations possible (fame, escape *super annoying* family, revenge on ex girlfriend). None of the teens' reasons for going on the trip had any substance.
- Mia's family leaves during her training.. to give her alone time? There's a whole discussion of a letter her younger brother writes that just never has any importance.
- Random romance without any meaningful build-up
- Everything that can go wrong just does, to the point where it isn't surprising whatsoever.
- Senior astronaut Coleman just decides to withhold information and kill himself instead of protecting girls? And doesn't recognize doppelganger as he's telling the girls what to lookout for?
- Predictable ending where the doppelganger comes back instead of Mia

I understand that this is fiction and not everything has to be realistic, it just felt too fantastical to be engrossing, there were even more scenarios like this than listed above. Basically the whole book.

I didn't realize this was horror going into it, and some parts were a bit chilling, but in a very temporary way.. I doubt this book will stick with me. It was advertised as having similarities to The Martian? Nowhere near the same caliber in my opinion.
