It was a light hearted read and I just loved it. Had my attention and kept my attention the entire time. Always a twist or a turn and never a dull moment.

Cannie was a fun character to read about and watch life play out for

I'm always dissapointed when I realize that the author has just written a fantasy about her life. Putting that aside there were parts towards the end where I wanted to know what happened next. My copy also came with an interview and Readers Club guide in the back that made me forgive Weiner slightly for the this is me, but only better story plot.

I also made the mistake of putting it on here and seeing that there is a Cannie Shapiro #2. I read the synop and found out how this book ends, sorta...

(I won't be gving you summary of this, tons of reviews are there to supply you that, anyway)

This, how so I explain this, isn't light or uplifting for me. Again this is my honest opinion of it.

I didn't connect well with the heroine, she's very depressing to read and she's always down.

And ps. It's not right to leave a guys because He told you It's not a date. You can hang out with him and enjoy.

I know, this probably sucks more for me cause I expected more. Oh well! Still read it and maybe you'll like it.

I didn't even remember this book until I saw my friend's review of the follow-on novel. When I read the description, I remembered liking the book and the high-level info, but not much else. So, I just gave it 3 stars and plan on reading the next book.

There are parts of this 20+ year old book that don't hold up well, especially Weiner's treatment of lesbians and lesbian stereotypes. And even though she came across as immature at times, I enjoyed this story of Cannie and her transformation. I especially liked the message that her transformation into a woman happy in her own body was highly preferable to the traditional losing-weight-to-feel-good-about-herself one often found in books like this.
