The writing of this book is dense, it’s incredibly descriptive- some of it adds to the spookiness other parts seem pointless and don’t add anything at all. It definitely picks up in the second half of the book and my heart was definitely beating faster. Whilst it was challenging , it was still a good  read. I definitely think the play captures the story much better than the book.

I don't know why I waited so long to read this book! It is a fabulous ghost story fully of forboding atmosphere, creeping dread and a spooky, haunting specter. This easily became one of my FAVORITE ghost stories ever!

Boring. I kept waiting for it to get at least a little bit spooky. No such luck!

This was spine chilling!! I found it very scary reading it all alone in the house. The history behind The Woman in Black is so terrible. There is such sadness in that part of the story as well as the ending. If you are a fan of the movie definitely read this. It's just as good.

This was a very cozy & spooky Victorian ghost story that used the phrase “pony trap” so many times that both words lost all meaning to me. Pony trap. Pony trap. Pony trap.

This book is okay, but I saw the play a couple of weeks before I read the book, and the play is absolutely brilliant. If you get the chance, go and watch it. It's very scary, but absolutely brilliant. (It was playing at the Fortune Theatre in West London when I saw it, not sure if it still is though.)
I cannot recommend the play enough.
If you cannot see the play though, the book is fine, I just enjoyed the play so much I had a lack of objectivity about the book.
