The first 100 pages almost made me put the book down and never try to actually finish it. However given that the book is 800+ pages long, I felt that 100 was a terrible amount to judge the book on. It got better, then worse, then better again. Some parts were definitely not my taste, but the mystery kept me hooked, and once it was solved it was too late to put the book down.

I don't care for thrillers. I read this because it was so talked about, and I finished it because I started it, but it is not my cup of tea. Really, I like books in which the characters have tea.

Lived up to the hype, and I'm a hater in general, so if I liked it after all that, that really says something. Well-written, compulsively readable, fantastic and realistic characters, and funny Swedish names. What else can you ask out of a book? The murder mystery part was solved pretty easily, in my opinion, but this book was more about the characters, the addictive writing style, and the story-telling than it was about the mystery itself. I can't wait to read the next one!

It was well written and engaging, despite some of the disturbing content. It was also refreshing reading something that was not US centric and learning a bit about the Swedish culture. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.
