I was engrossed by the story but I found the language a little tedious sometimes.

I love epic books, and I enjoy the perspective of generations. I am looking forward to more from Julia Glass

Although it seemed like a good concept, this novel just could not hold my interest. I found myself bored most of the way through, just wanting to finish it.

DNF, but I need this for my book challenge, so I'm marking it as read. It was ok; I liked the first section at first because the writing was lovely, but then I got unreasonably upset by the dog breeding (I just felt like it painted such an ugly picture of Maureen that I never got over), and then I was really annoyed that Fenno got an inheritance and opened a bookstore. It's just not fair; that should happen to me!

Ultimately, there was a lot to like, but it was uneven and there was just so little narrative drive that I got kind of bored. It's also sometimes hard for me to read about the problems of rich people who don't seem aware of or grateful for being rich, even if their problems are real. If you want to convince me to read the rest, please let me know. Otherwise, I do feel like I get the gist even to claim I read the whole thing...

Read for book club, but didn't finish in time to go to it. A good book, but I was sluggish getting through it for some reason.
I really enjoy books that give several points of view and move through a period of time, as well as that give a sense of place. This book does all three.

I like the character development and how the first person changed from Paul to Fenno, but the author is quite wordy. I'm on about page 100 and wondering how she's going to fill an additional 250 pages???
